Como Classica

Fifth season

5th March – 28th May, 2017

Como Classica calendar is filled with appointments and interpreters of high interest. It is a five years old festival that since its first edition, has made available classical music for everyone and not just for those who are already familiar with it.

The event has met with great acclaim by increasing public during these first five years, thus it is becoming a reference point for chamber music.

During this edition held from March 5th to May 28th  in Como, among the guests we take pleasure in noting: the famous Quartetto di Fiesole; Bruno Canino, piano legend who will perform in a duo with Davide Alogna, violinist and Como Classica artistic director; American pianist and composer Michael Bulychev; the young Giuseppe Gibboni, rising star of the Italian violin; the harpsichordist Roberto Loreggian and the flutist Stefano Maffizzoni, who will perform in the beautiful Romanesque scenery of San Vincenzo in Galliano in Cantù; and Concorno Trio (violin, horn and piano).

The opening concert will be held on Sunday 5th March at 5:30 pm at the Salone Musa of Carducci Institute in Como, where the chamber music ensemble par excellence will be the protagonist: Quartetto di Fiesole, winner of the first absolute prize at the "Gui" in Florence, the Competition in Cremona and heir of the Italian Quartet tradition.

Quartetto di Fiesole will perform on the notes of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Quartet in D major KV 575, Allegro, Andante, Minuetto Allegretto, Allegretto), Franz Schubert (Quartettsatz in C minor, Op. Posthumous D 703) and Aleksandr Borodin (Quartet n. 2 in D major, Allegro moderato, Scherzo-Allegro, Andante-Notturno, Finale).

Born in 1988, under the guidance of the unforgettable Piero Farulli, Quartetto di Fiesole conveys the message of the brightest Italian chamber music tradition in the biggest concert halls and festivals around the world, always achieving a great acclaim by critics and public.

In December 2016, following four years of silence, the components of Quartetto di Fiesole have come back on stage to bring new life. The quartet consists of Alina Company and Simone Ferrari who play the violin, Flaminia Zanelli who plays the viola and Sandra Bacci who plays the cello.

For the second appointment, on Saturday March 26th, Bruno Canino (authentic music legend) will be back on the shores of the Lake of Como. He is partner of Itzakh Perlman and Victoria Mullova who will perform in a duo with the violinist Davide Alogna.

After the success achieved thanks to their cd made for Playing News magazine and different tours around Europe that have always sold out, the two musicians came back to Como Classica with a new program between chamber and virtuous music by Mozart , Beethoven, Paganini, Fano, Saint Saëns.

On 9th April there will be the opportunity to hear a violin trio, horn and piano with a programme dedicated to Brahms and Beethoven.

On Sunday 23rd April it will be given space to early music in the wonderful basilica of San Vincenzo in Galliano, Cantù with a duo composed by a flute and harpsichord played by Roberto Loreggian and Stefano Maffizzoni.

On 14th May the American pianist and composer Michael Bulychev will propose a recital of international standing based on virtuosity on the Steinway of Salone Musa of Carducci.

The fifth edition of Como Classica will end with a very special concert. In fact, every year Como Classica organizes an event dedicated to promising young talents: on Sunday, 28th May will be the turn of a really unique guest, Giuseppe Gibboni, who is 16 years old and a rising star of the Italian violin.

He is an extraordinary talent, already awarded last May by Davide Alogna with the Premio Crescendo 2016 in Florence, who recently won the show "Prodigies" broadcast by Raiuno, recording a CD for the Warner label and becoming the youngest UNICEF ambassador.
