Lake Como Design Festival
from 17 Sep 2022 to 25 Sep 2022
Cos'è
For its fourth edition, the Lake Como Design Festival - from 17 to 25 September in Como - renews its format with exhibitions, talks and events in historical, unpublished or forgotten places in the city and the Como area. The festival aims to establish a fascinating and original dialogue between
history, architecture, design and art.
The theme of this festival will be Neo-nomadism, a concept moving seamlessly between real and digital life in a survey of new movements of culture and labour. These have always featured throughout the history of mankind but are now also very much associated with the phenomena of the great economic divide and of climate change. The festival event explores how the constant movement of people is a defining element of our times that is also influencing creativity.
ERRANTI, L’ARTE OLTRE IL LIMITE DEL VISIBILE (ART BEYOND THE LIMITS OF THE VISIBLE)
The programme for the 2022 event includes ERRANTI, l'arte oltre il limite del visibile (art beyond the limits of the visible) involving works that exist but that elude the gaze, a project for art and the local landscape curated by Francesca Alfano Miglietti (FAM); taking a route that winds its way through the Broletto but also through the festival venues and other places. It is a project whose discovery is the reward for a relentless search for the work and the place.
CONTEMPORARY DESIGN SELECTION
The Nobel Hall of the Casartelli Science Museum will host a contemporary design selection occupying the centre of the prestigious hall walled by a long array of antique glass cabinets that house an amazing collection of articles of scientific interest. Contemporary Design Selection will display the projects of independent designers selected by the festival together with Catawiki who have responded to the open call promoted by the festival.
GALERIE PHILIA AT CASA BIANCA
Design will also be at the forefront at Casa Bianca, a historic residence overlooking the first branch of Lake Como, as it opens to the general public for the first time on the occasion of this fourth year of the event. The villa will host a selection of designers’ works in its rooms in cooperation the Galerie Philia. An international gallery of contemporary design and modern art with offices in New York, Geneva, Singapore and Mexico City, Galerie Philia promotes selections of works in a transcultural approach with a network of harmoniously interconnected roots in a broad and heterogeneous collection that does justice to the beauty of each unique creation.
IN SEARCH OF LOST TIME, VILLA GALLIA
In collaboration with Movimento Club - a project promoted by Artefatto created to support young designers and emerging brands, working as a sort of nomadic gallery - Lake Como Design Festival presents 'In Search of Lost Time': a group exhibition of contemporary designers lifted from Marcel Proust’s acclaimed work by the same name, an impressive 4,000-page novel that took over 13 years to finish. The novel goes a long way into exploring the idea that our present and our future are a result of our past and that as much as we might not like to admit it, almost everything we do is influenced by our past decisions and actions.
‘In Search of Lost Time’ is a selection of pieces designed today, no more than that, pieces which reflect the designers and tell a story about their past experiences. An exhibition of 21st century design set within a backdrop of neo-classicalism; the stark contrast between the two ideas asking questions of time, perception and reflection.
REFRESHMENT DESIGN TALK, PORTICO DEL BROLETTO
Journalist Prashanth Cattaneo has been entrusted with the job of curating the meetings held under the arcade of Palazzo del Broletto, entitled Refreshment design talk. Three days, from September 20th to 22nd starting from 7:30 p.m., to meet and get to know authors and experts in Italian design in an exclusive location on Lake Como.
The Refreshment design talks will explore the subject of Neo-nomadism from varied perspectives with the aim of stimulating a discussion that will contribute to the design debate, while also acting as a compass to help us with our bearings in the present day as we seek out new scenarios throughout the whole discipline. Studio Calvi Brambilla, Ivan Bargna, studio wok, Tommaso Melilli, Giulio Cappellini, and Italo Rota are the foremost actors in this programme.
RATIONALIST COMO: Casa del Fascio, Monumento ai Caduti, Casa Cattaneo
During the fourth Lake Como Design Festival some of the most important rationalist works in the area will be firmly placed on the list of places to visit, namely the Casa del Fascio, the Monumento ai Caduti in Como and the Cattaneo Archive, housed inside Cesare Cattaneo's rationalist masterpiece in Cernobbio. Through observation and analysis of the architecture, with the involvement of local professionals such as the architects Ambrosini, Brambilla, Castelli, Di Salvo, Dolinski, Engineer Cattaneo and Dr. Galli, visitors will have the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the key points behind rationalist architecture, discover the new construction materials used, and learn about the inspiration that guided the masters of that time that straddled history and modernity.
The main objective of the guided tours, promoted by Wonderlake Como, is to invest in the knowledge and awareness of a heritage that is unique to this place and to generate interest in the artistic and architectural heritage of the Lake Como area, both for the international and the local public, including through the creation of a series of networking activities involving companies, schools and training institutes in the area over time.
