  • I volti di Plinio. Natura est vita (The Pliny’s faces. Nature is life)
On Friday 1st November open the multimedia exhibition of the Alessandro Volta Foundation, entitled “I volti di Plinio. Natura est vita” (The Pliny’s faces. Nature is life) and curated by Accademia Pliniana, will take place at the Palazzo del Broletto in Como: from 1st to 10th November, visitors will be guided through an immersive journey to explore the deep identity of Pliny the Elder and the timeless influence of his literary work, which comes from ancient Rome with universal echo to the present day. Gaius Plinius Secundus, now better known as Pliny the Elder, was born in Como in AD 23 or AD 24. He was a man of arms and letters who, in his encyclopaedic Naturalis Historia, gathered the bases of knowledge in a humanistic-scientific synthesis, in accordance with the principle of utilitas iuvandi, that is going towards the human needs through the dissemination of culture. Passionate and tireless scholar, high imperial official and admiral, Pliny travelled for years throughout almost all
  • Christian Leotta on the piano - Recital II
A rare opportunity offered by the pianist Christian Leotta, who in four evenings – 1st October, 3rd November, 9th December, 13th January – will give a full performance of the 11 “completed” Piano Sonatas by Franz Schubert at the Teatro Sociale of Como, two hundred years after their composition. A rarity especially because – due to their complexity and the, not only technical, commitment that they require – Schubert’s Sonatas are not often addressed by pianists as a complete corpus, and their performance is almost always reserved to a limited number of them. After all, Leotta is not new to exceptional musical endeavours, having performed the complete cycle of the 32 Beethoven Sonatas twenty-one times around the world. With the Schubertian cycle scheduled at the Teatro Sociale of Como, Leotta will also become the first Italian pianist to have a repertoire of and to perform both the cycle of Beethoven’s Piano Sonatas and that of Schubert’s Piano Sonatas in concert.
