  • Finissage of Antonio Sant'Elia exhibition. Visione e regola (Vision and Rule)
    At the end of the exhibition entitled “Antonio Sant’Elia (1888-1916) Visione e regola. L’incontro tra futurismo e razionalismo nel Monumento ai Caduti di Como", (Vision and Rule. The meeting between Futurism and Rationalism in the Monument to the Fallen in Como), held in the premises of the “Ordine Architetti PPC Como” that will last until February 25th, the Culture Commission of the Order of the architects of Como, promotes an extraordinary opening-up addressed to professionals, citizens and public, which includes the following events: a guided tour of the exhibition with the exhibition’s curators a visit of the Monumento dei Caduti (Monument to the Fallen), specifically opened for the occasion, the screening of short films made by architecture students from the Mendrisio Academy and young film-maker architects, during the workshop with Ila Beka held in Como in November by the Order of the architects of Como together with the Culture Commission.
  • Oltre la città. Periferie urbane e fabbriche dismesse (Beyond the city. Urban and disused factories suburbs)
    San Pietro in Atrio will host the exhibition of Lorenzo Curioni entitled “Oltre la città. Periferie urbane e fabbriche dismesse” (Beyond the city. Peripheral urban areas and disused factories suburbs), organized in collaboration with the Department of Culture. On display more than 20 paintings of the artist's recent production. The images proposed open the door to an area of the metropolitan city that looks like the typical area now commonly called industrial archeology. The buildings, the colours, the atmosphere in the streets which sweeps us away to the past that the habit has integrated. Curioni’s painting brings us to those places and the exhibition is an overview of the reality influenced by the Chiarismo (Lombardy art movement) The painter represents on canvas a deep relationship between man and space, which is mostly visible in the urban habitat where human presence traces its history and where it is possible to perceive different pace of a daily life or impregnated through the
  • Women and science, from past to future
    The Como Public Library celebrates the anniversary of the birth of Marie Curie (1867-1934), with an exhibition curated by Chiara Milani and Laura Rampazzi, entitled Donne e Scienza, dal passato al future (Women and Science, from past to future). The exhibition dedicated to the great scientist, twice Nobel Prize winner, is an opportunity to draw the attention to those women who, from antiquity to the present day, have chosen science as field of research; women who - despite a male dominated society and the consequent exclusion from regular studies - have taken the path of science with great difficulty but with incredible determination, achieving interesting or important results. As usual, the events in libraries benefit from the extensive book and documents heritage carefully kept: a quarry from which knowledge can and should be drawn, looking back over centuries. The public library will show its books, including the Phd thesis in chemistry of Marie Curie published in Paris in 1904;
  • Young European Creation of Contemporary Arts
    Frome March 11th to April 2nd, 2017 in the Spazio Ratti in Como will take place the Italian stop of the Biennale d’Arte Contemporanea Giovane Creazione Europea – JCE Jeune Création Européenne (Young European Creation of Contemporary Arts), after the expositions in France, Danemark, Latvia, Poland, Spain, and Portugal. The exhibition will bring together 56 artists from 7 European countries, which express themselves with different types of art: painting, sculpture, installation art, photography, and video art. The event is edited by Veronica Vittani and Francesca Testoni and is promoted by the Lombardy Region, by the GAI (Association for Young Italian Artists) and is supported by the technical contribution from Menphis spa. The 8 Italian artists taking part in the exhibition are: Giulia Berra, Tania Brassesco & Lazlo Passi Norberto, Juri Ceccotti, Giulia Fumagalli, Matteo Galvano, Giovanni Longo, Federico Scarchilli. They have been selected from the Cultural Councilor of Como through
  • Lighea Paintings Exhibition
    St. Peter in Atrio hosts the personal exhibition of the artist Livornese Isabella Staino, organized in collaboration with the Council of Culture of Como. The exhibition is divided into three sections: Lighea, the mystery of simple gestures and Isabella and the shadow. The first part of the exhibition includes a group of recent works never exhibited on the "Lighea" theme, inspired by Giuseppe Tomasi of Lampedusa (1896 - 1957). Emerging from luminescent darkness, from backdrops animated by fabulous creatures, women-siren call and call each other. The ancient Lighea, eternal adolescent, queen of the curls, shows itself in a night sea, with heavy waves, silent. Visionary works between mythology and dreams: as if each frame contained the depth of the sea, from which surface shapes and vivid colors emerge.   • Elevated walkway of the Cathedral guided tour
    Only on April 24th, visitors will be able to admire the Como Cathedral from the elevated walkway, the Church is the third of Lombardy, after the Duomo of Milan and the Certosa of Pavia. Qualified tourist guides will accompany visitors on a fascinating journey through steep spiral stone staircase and will reach a walkway that runs along the inside of the Cathedral offering a very unique perspective. The duration of the visit is about 30 minutes by Italian and English Guides (Guide Lake Como Today and World Tourist Guides-Guides Lake Como). Guides will lead groups of maximum 15 people. The route includes a steep and narrow spiral staircase and narrow trenches (both for height and width). The path is not accessible to those with walking difficulties, and people who suffer from claustrophobia and / or dizziness.   • Colors - Interactive Exhibition
    An interactive exhibition on the various aspects of the phenomenon of color, featuring exhibits and educational workshops. The different interactive installations intend to show how color is a complex phenomenon that includes physical, perceptual, psychological and cultural aspects. The exhibition offers a direct experience of application-based phenomena. The exhibition is realized under the scientific direction of Dr Maria Bondani of CNR, at the University of Insubria in Como. Specially trained local university students are available to guide visitors during the show.     From the beautiful Cathedral to the neoclassical Theatre, through to the Rationalist "Casa del fascio" and past the main squares and churches, including the romanic San Fedele, this Guided Tour in English will walk you through the main monuments of the City of Como. The Tour is lead by a professional guide and the itinerary is mostly within the pedestrian area. The Tour takes place in the afternoon.   • A night at the Museum
    The Egyptian Collection at the Como Museums is made by hundreds of pieces date back to Ancient Egypt, and there have been many events in May 2017 to celebrate this treasure. Within these events, a special Night for children has been organised by Aster and it takes place on June 1st. Egyptian characters get back to life in order to help children to unveil a mystery! The Mummy will be part of the night tales and only the brave can attend, with torches and courage. Children will spend the night at the Museum, so they need to bring a pijamas, a sleeping bag and toothbrush.
