Lake Como is a land of wonderful landscapes and history, but also the place where the adventures of smugglers, brigands and soldiers have been consumed. In this frontier land between Italy and Switzerland, the mountains just around the city Como were excavated to accommodate trenches, fortresses and hiding places. The woods have been inhabited by soldiers and the trails were crossed from one side of the border to the other by men with huge shoulder bags, often escaping from the guards of both countries. The Tour will guide you for a few hours (up to 5 hours) in the Spina Verde park, a nice green area of Como, where you can enjoy the natural beauty of the park, beautiful views of the city and the lake and learn very particular aspects of the local history. • Walking around Rationalism
COMO CITY OF RATIONALISM The itinerary in Como dedicated to Rationalism tells the extraordinary architectural renovation that the city of Como underwent in '900, not only regarding the formal and plastic solutions adopted, but also the evidence of new urban landscapes. The itinerary starts off by Casa del Fascio, a building realized by Giuseppe Terragni between 1932 and 1936; this is considered one of the most important rationalist monument of the European architecture. On the way from Piazza del Popolo to the gardens on the lake, you will find the Negozio Vitrum (1930) and the Metropole Suisse Hotel (1926-1927). • Textilities ... and Roses too
The Fondazione Antonio Ratti is pleased to present Textilities ... and Roses Too, a group exhibition to mark the Foundation’s 30th anniversary and the centenary of the birth of its founder, the textile designer, entrepreneur and collector Antonio Ratti (1915-2002). Textiles are sensual abstractions by linking tactile and optical properties, and embodying aesthetic as well as social and economic developments. Whereas in technical terms they are based on a binary structure (the intersection of threads), their characteristics (an appealing and analytical quality), emerge from complex, non-linear visual and material transfers across time and space. Antonio Ratti collected textiles – primarily samples, drawings and pattern books – as objects to study, as models to be copied, rearranged, reinterpreted and reproduced. Approaching textiles through the lens of microhistory – a concept developed in the 1970s by a group of Italian historians as an analytical tool to probe (material and
