    Collections The exhibits are a rich sample of equipment, machines and instruments, which allow the visitor to easily and comprehensively identify the themes that were the subject of Alessandro Volta's studies and research, starting from the invention of the pile, to continue with the fundamental contributions in the field of electrology, in the study of gases and their properties. Many of the materials on display are original of Alessandro Volta, others are objects of the Volta period or dating back to immediately following years; The collection includes some reconstructions, made in the early years of the last century, to compensate for the loss of the original ones, destroyed by the fire of 1899. The exhibition on the ground floor is divided into 15 showcases, divided into different sections.

  • Italian Endurance Motorboating Championship
    The Italian Endurance World Championship returns to Como in the 71st edition of the Centomiglia del Lario. The free trials and technical tests will take place on Friday 23rd October from 8 am to 7 pm; the free trials and Races 1 and 2 will take place on Saturday 24th October from 8 am; the start of the 71st Centomiglia del Lario, including the Italian Off Shore 5000 and Endurance Championship, is set for 2.30 pm on Sunday 25th October.     Arte Solidale Festival is an international classical music festival and charity, which takes place every year in the area of Lake Como, Italy. The mission of the Festival is both to promote young artists as well as to support minors in need, by collaborating with social organisations in the territory of Lake Como. The concerts, set during springtime each year, take place in historical villas and palaces on the shores of Lake Como, where composers like Franz Liszt and Johannes Brahms used to spend time and compose, inspired by the amazing landscapes. Multiple themed concerts, including solo recitals, chamber music and orchestral music concerts, are presented to the audience. Every year the Festival presents events dedicated to families with children, as well. Over its five editions, the Festival featured young soloists and orchestral musicians from Italy, Latvia, USA, Spain, France, Slovenia, Russia.     The main town entrance during the Roman Empire

    Main access to town during the Roman Empire, also called “Porta Pretoria”. That was the place to enter Como for people coming from Milan. It was discovered in 1914 and it is now visible thanks to restoration projects carried out in the last years. The porta can only be visited upon reservation.     The door has two openings separated by a central pillar and flanked by two octagonal towers and was the main entrance to Novum Comum for those coming from Milan. It was also passable by wagons, as shown by the furrows on the stone threshold. The entrances could be closed by shutters down from the upper floor.
