Lombard Institute Academy
The Lombard institute Academy of Science and Letters, home of the great scientist among its first
members and as first Chairperson played from the beginning a leading role to collect, maintain, and
valorise the memories of Alessandro Volta.
In 1864, the rooms dedicated to Volta were opened in the ancient seat of the Institute, in the Palazzo
Brera, for the conservation of scientific Relics acquired on national subscription by the Institute
itself. In 1959, due to the transfer of the Presidency and offices in the nearby Palazzo Landriani
a new and larger Sala Volta was set up.
