Como Sud
“In Como Sud: un’esperienza tra Cultura e Natura” (Southern Como: an experience between Culture and Nature" is an initiative by circolo di Legambiente “A. Vassallo” in collabotion with assessorato alla Cultura del Comune di Como. Many associations and organizations participated in the project.
The aim is to promote a specific territory in southern Como to make people aware of its cultural and natural resources, making it a place to spend time, relax and know more about Como.
Therefore, a biligual brochure has been produced. Citizens and tourists have the opportunity to scan the QR code on the brochure and get more information about historical and cultural southern Como heritage to experience it in the most fruitful way.
VILLA CANTALUPA
Starting from “Ca’ d’Industria” (via Varesina 118, località Rebbio), it is possible to see Villa Cantalupa and its park, which contains an art masterpiece, a pendulum statue called “Perpetuum Mobile” by Emilio Alberti.
WASH HOUSES
Wash houses were points of convergence for some common female jobs in Italy before the country joined the consumer culture and was primarly linked to a rural economy. (via Salvadonica, località Rebbio – via Valorsa, località Breccia).
S. MARTINO CHURCH
The church (via Lissi 11) has a medieval structure and originally had a single nave before being rebuilt in the 18th century. The altarpiece of the main altar depicts San Martino of Tours.
NEGRETTI PUBLIC PARK
The Negretti public park is located between Via G. da Como and Via Palma and it is as large as the public garden park by the lake. It has sports facilities and lush trees.
LAZZAGO OLD VILLAGE
From Breccia we reach the old village of Lazzago (16th-17th century, via Varesina), which falls entirely within the property of the Giulini family.
VILLA GIOVIO IN BRECCIA AND ITS PARK
Villa Giovio (via Villa Giovio)was the holiday residence of the noble Giovio family. It was designed towards the end of the 18th century by the famous architect Simone Cantoni in the neoclassical style.
COMBONI FATHERS' RESIDENCE
The property of the Comboni Fathers, in via Salvadonica, and the space surrounding the residence is extremely green and quiet.
FOUNTAIN AT CAMERLATA (Piazza Camerlata)
Designed by the architect Cattaneo and the painter Radice, the fountain at Camerlata is presented as an abstract sculpture. As a composition, this collection of pure and abstract shapes combines both the rationalist and futurist artistic movements.
FORMER SANATORIUM “G.B. GRASSI”
The sanatorium (via Colonna, località Camerlata) is situated in a small green area which includes the small old church dedicated to Santa Brigida.
INDUSTRIAL AXIS AT VIA PASQUALE PAOLI AND MODERN ARCHITECTURE
Modern architecture on the former Via Pasquale Paoli industrial axis, which represented the axis for twentieth-century industrial development in Como.
